Aramid & LCP Ropes
Where HMPE would creep or soften, aramid (Technora, Kevlar) and liquid crystal polymer (Vectran) ropes hold their length under sustained load and tolerate far higher temperatures. Elongation is very low, so these ropes are used for standing rigging, deepwater and specialist offshore work rather than for shock loading.
- Fibre
- Aramid (Technora / Kevlar) and LCP (Vectran)
- Construction
- 12-strand braid or braid-on-braid with protective cover
- Elongation at break
- approx. 2 - 4 %
- Thermal limit
- Retains strength well above 200 C; does not melt
- Creep
- Negligible under sustained load
Applications
- Standing rigging and stays
- High-temperature and offshore service
- Heavy lift slings
Standards
- Tested to ISO 2307
- Project-specific qualification testing available
- Always supplied with a UV-protective cover — bare aramid degrades in sunlight.
Figures are typical values for the fibre type. Exact break loads, weights and tolerances are stated on the certificate supplied with each rope.
