HMPE / Dyneema Rope
HMPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, sold as Dyneema or Spectra) gives strength comparable to steel wire of the same diameter at around one seventh of the weight, with only 3 - 4 % elongation. It floats, but it creeps under sustained load and softens near 145 - 150 C, so drum friction has to be controlled.
