Gulf of İzmit — Marmara

Marine rope and rigging supply — İzmit & Dilovası

The Gulf of İzmit holds one of Turkey's densest concentrations of industrial terminals — chemical, petroleum, LPG, cement and general cargo jetties running almost continuously along both shores. Tanker and chemical carrier mooring dominates the rope requirement here.

Region

Gulf of İzmit, eastern Marmara

Terminal types

Chemical, petroleum, LPG, dry bulk, general cargo

Traffic

Tankers, chemical carriers, gas carriers, coasters

Distance from us

Short road run east from Tuzla

Tanker terminals mean documentation, not just rope

At a liquid bulk jetty the mooring arrangement is inspected before cargo transfer starts, and a line that cannot be traced to a certificate is a finding. In practice that means the paperwork travels with the rope: material, construction, diameter, length, batch, tested break load and the date the line entered service.

This is where MEG4 terminology becomes practical rather than academic. The vessel's mooring management plan works from the ship design MBL, and the line is selected so that its line design break force sits in the correct relationship to it. We quote using those terms because that is how the superintendent has to record it.

Tails, chafe protection and fairlead wear

İzmit jetties see passing-ship effects and surge from traffic in a narrow gulf. That is exactly the condition a mooring tail is designed for: a short high-elongation section that absorbs a movement the main line would otherwise transmit as a peak load.

The other recurring İzmit item is chafe protection. Constant small movement at the fairlead does more cumulative damage than any single heavy load, and it is the cheapest failure to prevent.

  • Nylon mooring tails matched to the main line specification
  • Chafe protection sleeves for the fairlead and the eye
  • Line record cards and break load certificates supplied with every line
  • Replacement lines quoted against the existing mooring plan

A note on terminology

We supply mooring lines with documentation supporting MEG4 requirements. We do not describe products as OCIMF approved or OCIMF certified, because OCIMF does not operate a product approval scheme of that kind — a certificate accompanying a mooring line is the manufacturer's and the test house's statement, not an OCIMF endorsement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Lines are supplied with documentation supporting MEG4 requirements — material, construction, diameter, length, batch and tested break load — so the line record and mooring management plan can be updated. We do not claim OCIMF approval, because no such product approval scheme exists.
