Why Tuzla is different from a normal port call

A vessel in Tuzla is usually not in a hurry to sail — it is in a hurry to finish a repair list. That changes what a rope supplier has to do. Instead of dropping a coil at the gangway, the job is often a complete re-rope carried out against a class or owner inspection: the old lines come off, the new lines are measured against the mooring arrangement, eyes are spliced to the correct length, tails are matched, and each line is tagged and certificated before the ship leaves the yard.

Because we work inside the same zone, we can measure on board rather than guess from an old purchase order. That removes most of the eye-length and drum-capacity mistakes that show up on the first mooring after delivery.

What we typically supply to Tuzla yards

Repair periods concentrate the whole rigging inventory into a few weeks, so the scope is usually broader than a single item.

• Complete mooring line sets — HMPE, polyester, nylon, polypropylene and mixed construction
• Mooring tails matched to the existing main lines
• Steel wire rope for winches, cranes and towing arrangements, with pressed or hand-spliced terminations
• Anchor chain, kenter links, joining shackles, swivels and anchors
• Shackles, thimbles, hooks and turnbuckles for deck and lifting arrangements
• Chafe protection fitted at the fairlead and over the eye
• On-site splicing and re-termination during the docking

Working with the yard, not around it

Tuzla work is nearly always coordinated with three parties at once: the owner or manager buying the item, the yard scheduling the docking, and the superintendent signing off the inspection. We are used to that. Send us the repair specification or the rigging section of the docking list and we will quote item by item so the superintendent can approve line by line rather than against one lump sum.
